Washington, DC – Last May at the Federal Forecasters Consortium, a groundbreaking approach to improving forecast accuracy for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was presented. The presentation highlighted AForge’s Kelly Hughes’ innovative Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques focused on the correlation between the language used by Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and the precision of their projections.
The integration of advanced NLP techniques and domain-specific linguistic features significantly enhanced the accuracy of SME evaluations. Refining and blending forecasting models based on more accurate SME evaluations led to more precise projections of border encounters.
This approach not only improves forecast accuracy but also enables more informed decision-making within the DHS. Hughes’ findings highlight the importance of nuanced language analysis in forecasting and pave the way for future applications of NLP in governmental and security contexts.
