In this edition of Employee Spotlight, we sat down with Danny Vice, the newest addition to the AFORGE team. Having stepped into a leadership role with AFORGE’s Business Development team a few months ago, Danny exemplifies an impressive background spanning 29 years of military service. This includes leadership roles as an Army Signal Officer and a Bronze Star award for his service in Afghanistan! Danny brings a wealth of strategic experience and dedication to supporting the warfighter. In addition to his military achievements, Danny has spent the last 12 years (since retiring from the Army) in various BD roles including Capture Manager, Director, and VP in support of DoD contracts.
Q: What brought your talents to AFORGE?
A: AFORGE was a good fit for my experience. I have been building and managing business development efforts over the past 12 years in support of the DoD and other governmental agencies. I am connected to the support of the warfighter!
Q: What does your day-to-day look like in this role?
A: My day-to-day is action-packed with activities to support all aspects of the Business Development Lifecycle: Managing a pipeline of opportunities within the DoD and other governmental agencies to grow our business, interacting with teaming partners to provide solutions and services to the warfighter, and technical writing for white papers, capability statements, market research, and requests for proposals.
Q: What are the key skills that help you thrive in your role?
A: Leadership, time management, interpersonal skills, effective communication, problem-solving, and creating writing. I also have a Master’s Degree in Engineering Management, Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification, CompTIA Security+, and ITIL Certifications.
Q: What about working on BusDev projects do you enjoy?
A: I like that Business Development is an ever-changing environment of issues that we get to solve to support of the Military.
Q: What are some of your passions outside of work?
A: I’m passionate about anything sports-related—Roll Tide! I enjoy listening to audiobooks and have amassed a collection of over 450 titles on Audible. I love playing board and card games.
I have been married to my wife, Cindi for 18 years and we share 7 children and 5 grands. I also have a few pets: two Siberian cats named Vlad and Klaus, and a long-haired miniature dachshund named Gunter.
